Source of Being Meditation - Holistic personal development places much emphasis on connecting to the source of being in conjunction with any personal development work. Why is this, you wonder? Because wholeness, which comes from your source of being, is critical for knowing what your purpose is. It saves you from just following the dictates of the ego mind, which is more interested in fragmentation and separateness than in oneness. If your goal is unlimited, then you need to go to the unlimited. The finite ego mind, after all, is finite. Unlimited potential only comes from connecting to the infinite source of being. Therefore, if there is no access to it, you are hindered in any personal development growth.
Ten Consciousness Raising Quotations - Here are ten consciousness raising quotations that have made an impact in my life that you might find useful in your contemplation meditations.
1. Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. --Rumi
I am drawn to this quote because it reminds us that although we have full consciousness, capable of self-realization, we miss the mark due to the identification with our false self. It’s the same as Michelangelo saying that David already existed in the marble, he just needed to remove what was extraneous.
Spiritual Vision Board - If you watched The Secret, you might remember seeing a vision board being used as a tool to manifest envisioned reality. This past weekend my wife and I visited my sister in the Washington, DC area. I noticed immediately she had turned the front of her refrigerator into what I would call a spiritual vision board. To give you some idea of what a spiritual vision board might consist of, I have reproduced the words of wisdom that comprised hers. These quotes were collected from greeting cards and postcards that people had sent her over the years, as well as some that she collected.
The Purpose of Meditation - If you think the purpose of meditation is to escape from everyday life, you are mistaken. It’s purpose is so we can enter life more fully. It’s like sharpening a sword before going into battle. Once in a while I’ll put on my sunglasses or my reading glasses and the lenses are dirty and I have to clean them so that I can see properly. Likewise, the mirrors of our minds, which reflect the source of our being, become thick with layers of impressions accumulated through the vicissitudes of life. With vision clouded, we are not able to function as effectively as when we see clearly.
Meditation and Stress Relief - Meditation and stress relief are tools to keep the map accurate. If you feel overstressed, anxious, stuck in a rut, and apathetic about life, then you can benefit greatly from meditating. You will find this to be the case whether you try guided meditation, Zen meditation, breathing meditation, or Transcendental Meditation. They all have one thing in common, they slow down the mind and bring relaxation and clearer perception. If you feel drawn in that direction, Meditation is a self-empowerment technique that will assist you as you pursue your holistic personal development.
The Final Account - I came across these words of Meher Baba today, which serves as a meditation, putting everything about life, and all of its complexities into perspective. It's a passage from Life at its Best called The Final Account. "When the goal of life is attained, one achieves the reparation of all wrongs, the healing of all wounds, the righting of all failures, the sweetening of all sufferings, the relaxation of all strivings, the harmonizing of all strife, the unraveling of all enigmas, and the real and full meaning of all life--past, present and future."
