Harmony with All
by Gregory Allen Butler
"Mankind’s role is to fulfill his heaven-sent purpose through a sincere heart that is in harmony with all creation and loves all things."
-- Morihei Ueshiba (Founder of Aikido)
Morihei Ueshiba wasn’t just philosophizing, he was speaking from his own experience. Even when people would attack him, he would find the harmony and love required to create an environment of non-violence. His harmony with all creation was such that he was able to transcend the physical. How? By having consciousness of the subtle realms.
How can we create harmony with all creation? By recognizing that all is of divine origin. Everything in creation is part of consciousness seeking to know itself as infinite consciousness.
What are the causes of disharmony? The primary reason for disharmony is being disconnected from the source of being, which is a polite way of saying "being ignorant of one’s true nature." This comes from a deluded sense of identity, looking upon ourselves as separate drops, not seeing that we are all part of the same infinite ocean of consciousness.
All matter vibrates with energy. Put a rock under a powerful microscope and you will see that there isn’t really a rock there at all -- just a whirling mass of energy. And each of us too are whirling masses of energy. When looked upon at the deepest level, everything in creation is a whirling mass of energy, of light, of consciousness.
It’s all a matter of perception. Look upon yourself as light and perhaps you can see the person next to you as light as well.
Love and compassion can bridge the distance between two people. When we love, a new sense of perception opens which allows us to see beyond the physical. Mother Theresa said that when see looked at the lepers in Calcutta, she saw Jesus in all of his hideous disguises. That type of vision is not possible without love. When Meher Baba did his work with lepers in India, he called them beautiful souls in ugly cages. This type of seeing requires that we get past our conditioned thinking. The mind likes to rebel, but the heart’s nature is to embrace. And it is in the embrace that we find harmony and oneness.
