Unable to Sleep Through the Night
April 1, 2007
Sometimes I wake up at 3 or 4 am and I am unable to sleep. I usually get up for a few hours. Later, because I work from home, I am able to take a nap if I get sleepy. The night before last I woke up at 4 am. I got out of bed and went into my home office and spent some time on the computer, checking my website statistics, reading some stories on the internet, checking e-mail. But within about 15 minutes my wife Maggie called me from the bedroom. "Why are you up so early? Come back to bed."

Consciousness -- The Ultimate Purpose
April 2, 2007
Consciousness is the definer of our reality. I know this from my own personal experience from when I was only 21-years-old. In my case, a brush with death deepened and expanded it overnight. What normally is a long and gradual process happened quickly.

Holistic Health and Awareness
April 2, 2007
I became committed to holistic health after traditional medicine left my body in a state of ruin. Furthermore, I was told that my health would progressively get worse as the years passed by. I wasn't left much choice.

Meditation and Stress Relief
April 2, 2007
Meditation and stress relief are tools to keep the map accurate. If you feel overstressed, anxious, stuck in a rut, and apathetic about life, then you can benefit greatly from meditating. You will find this to be the case whether you try guided meditation, Zen meditation, breathing meditation, or Transcendental Meditation. They all have one thing in common, they slow down the mind and bring relaxation and clearer perception. If you feel drawn in that direction, Meditation is a self-empowerment technique that will assist you as you pursue your holistic personal development.

Personal Development
April 2, 2007
Personal development is self-defeating if you attend to one dimension of yourself at the expense of another dimension. At best you will experience lopsided growth. At worse, you will become dysfunctional and obsessive.

Self-Confidence -- Knowing the Self
April 2, 2007
I have been on both sides of the continuum on self-confidence. I remember being so nervous speaking in front of one of my college classes that the teacher forced me to enroll in speech therapy. But a few years later I was regularly winning speech contests in Toastmasters in the Los Angeles area. I even gave a lecture at the First Metaphysical Congress at the Santa Ana Convention Center.

Abundance -- A Question of Attraction
April 2, 2007
Energy is the foundation of abundance. Positive energy increases it, negative energy decreases it. When we can get free of all the negative, hurtful, limiting, and binding energy inside us, we can become attractors of positive energy. When we are able to smile, we get smiles back. When we are no longer afraid to talk to people, people talk to us. Life starts to work. Vibrations are speeded up.

Unworthiness
April 3, 2007
Unworthiness leads to self doubt. But it's not that we are unworthy. It's that we have a false sense that we are unworthy. This sense of unworthiness is what blocks the beauty of the soul from expressing itself in our daily lives. It is this sense of unworthiness that blocks spontaneity, creativity, and love. The doubt of being worthy is what stops us from traversing the spiritual path. The doubting voice says, "I'm deluding myself if I think I have the making of a spiritual aspirant."

Life and Death --
A Synergy of Awareness
April 5, 2007
Life and death are so connected that the understanding of one is not complete without the understanding of the other. The synergy of the two leads to heightened awareness. I remember hearing the following words of advice on a cold January night in India: "Live your spiritual life as if you aren't going to live to see the sun rise tomorrow morning." That was a wake up call.

Oxygen-Based Colon Cleanser Breakthrough
April 6, 2007
I came across an oxygen-based colon cleanser that should be of interest to everybody. It's os special interest to me. As someone who was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease (many years ago) I am always focused on ways to keep my digestive system in optimal health. I never want to suffer the extreme and painful effects of that again. And it's not just a concern about Crohn's Disease. The digestive tract is responsible for the processes that sustain our health with the absorption of nutrients, minerals and vitamins. It's also responsible for the detoxification and purification of the body. When my digestive system is working properly, my skin is clearer, my body doesn't ache, and I have more energy.

The purpose of life is deeply important. When living with purpose, life works. It gives a certain self-satisfaction. When not on purpose, life has a sense of dis-ease, of discontent, of unrest.

Green Investing
-- A Close-up Look at IET
April 10, 2007
Companies that outperform on the environment, outperform financially. And for me, green investing, at least in one particular company, has never been sweeter. After all, how many companies can you walk into, tell a staffer you are a shareholder, and get a personalized 90-minute tour by the President and Vice President. That's what happened yesterday when I visited Integrated Environmental Technologies , Ltd. I guess they just can't contain their enthusiasm for what they do. What a great pleasure it was to spend time with business people who are inspired.

Zen and the Art of Life After Death
April 12, 2007
It's a very Zen-like thing to do -- letting go. Life after death happens to everyone, sooner or later. But what do we do? Where do we go? What do we need to do to prepare? You may have seen the Visa commercial about all the great places that don't take American Express. Well the afterlife is one such place. But they don't take Visa either. Don't worry about it. They don't even take cash. When it's your turn, leave your wallet at home. Leave everything at home. It's time to let go.

Conscious Awareness -- The Opportunity of Each Moment
April 13, 2007
Viktor E. Frankl was suggesting conscious awareness when he wrote, "Live as if you were living a second time, and as though you had acted wrongly the first time." I hear a lot of people say they would like a chance to live life over again so they could get it right. OK. What do you want to do differently? Write it down. Bring to conscious awareness the unconscious patterns in your life that you want to eliminate. It doesn't matter if you are 20, 40, 60 or 90 years old. Each moment of life is an opportunity to live life fully.

ADD Without Drugs
April 15, 2007
I have ADD. And that's OK with me. I'm glad I have it. I have lived successfully with ADD without drugs. And the reason I don't take the drugs is because I don't want to be fit into the mold of normalcy. Because I am someone with the traits or characteristics of what is often called ADD, and because I do a lot of reading on the subject, I have developed my own perspective about it. I like to contrast the ADD brain to the non-ADD brain. Metaphorically, I describe the ADD brain as a personal computer and the non-ADD brain as a typewriter. The people who have typewriters are able to produce pages of letters and articles and whatever needs to be typed, methodically, one page at a time. But the person with the computer sometimes isn't able to get anything accomplished. And the reason is because no one gave them an operating manual on how to work the computer.

Gun Violence in America -- The Price We Pay
April 16, 2007
Today 33 people died and more than 30 others were injured from gun violence at Virginia Tech University. The shock and horror of that is so overwhelming that it is hard to think of anything else but the grief the families of the victims must be feeling. I pray that the pain in their hearts will one day be healed. But things aren't getting any better as far as shootings go. Next week, according to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, another 42 young people age 18 and under will die from gun violence. This equates to about 2,200 young people a year dying from firearms.

The health benefits of coconut oil are many but there seems to be a lot of misinformation about it by misinformed health professionals. Tell your doctor you enjoy the health benefits of coconut oil and see what the response is. If the response is disbelief and disdain, then maybe you need a new doctor.

Social Intelligence in the Age of Digital Disconnect
April 19, 2007
Social intelligence impacts you even when you're not aware of it. You can walk into a room full of frowning people and consciously not even be aware of their expressions. But your brain picks it up and your emotional state is impacted. You inexplicably start feeling down. Or perhaps you have had a stranger make your day with just a few words of kindness. You might have been depressed for days and a few words changed it all. Words engender feelings and feelings are powerful. Feelings affect biological changes, affecting hormones, heart rate, circulation, breathing and the immune system. Interactions with others can have us feeling happy, confident and uplifted or sad, insecure and depleted.

Self-Esteem -- The Way to Transcend It
April 24, 2007
Self-esteem gets a lot of hoopla in self-help circles these days, and that's fine. There is no doubt that a person who has a high opinion of him or herself is happier than the person who doesn't. However, there is another dimension to being that reaches so far beyond the limits of one's self-perception that it makes opinions (self-opinion and other people's opinion) irrelevant. This is the dimension of inner presence. It is so precious, so exquisite that any labels or comparisons are meaningless. It is a state of being that is beyond duality. It is a state of being that is untarnished by circumstance. I am referring to the state of being that is sustained by consciousness, that never diminishes, never fades, that is never lacking.

Rumi and the Inner World of Oneness
April 26, 2007
Are you familiar with he poetry of Rumi ? He is now the number one selling poet in America. This, despite the fact that he was a Sufi living in Turkey -- born 800 years ago this September. Why is he so popular? I think it's because his words strike a deep cord of resonance within the hearts of his readers, awakening them to the mystery of divine presence.

Magnetic Therapy Debate
April 27, 2007
I went to a presentation yesterday about magnetic therapy and the logic made sense. Were all the claims true? I found today that there are studies from Europe and Asia that back up the claims I heard. However, a lot of the studies were tests using electromagnetic therapy, which is a lot more powerful.

Preparing for the Spiritual Path
April 29, 2007
Preparing for the spiritual path. Those were the words of advice I read the other night in a book that now I can't get out of my mind. Have you ever read something in a book that gets your attention to the extent that you can't sleep? The book is by Marianne Williamson entitled Everyday Grace. It is full of inspired writing about the mystical path. She says just as you make preparations before you go on a journey, so you must make preparations before you go on a spiritual journey.
